Digital push-button combination locks are used on many doors in hospitals, residential care homes, businesses and schools the world over for the control of pedestrian access. However, with the arrival of the novel coronavirus, high touch surfaces like these are now a potential transmission surface for COVID-19, as referenced in this recent article by the BBC.
But a British lock manufacturer has developed an innovative solution designed to help control the transmission of the coronavirus and it only takes minutes to fit and start working to control at mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Borg Locks (UK) based in Essex, has patented a physical copper alloy shield specifically designed to limit the transmission of COVID-19 on their digital push-button combination locks.
The Cu-Shield, with its innovative copper-touch surface is joinig the fight to limit the spread of the coronavirus on high-transmission surfaces.
Called the Cu-Shield, this is the world’s first keypad shield which can be retrofitted to existing keypad locks in high-transmission areas within hospitals, residential care homes, schools and businesses.

In another innovative turn, the Cu-Shield can be retrofitted to existing Borg locks in under 15 minutes and doesn’t require any specialist skills or labour, meaning the potential spread of the coronavirus can be reduced right away.
